Q: How do you determine the size and location of territories for franchise owners?

A: Your exclusive, protected territory is an area that can be economically served out of one physical location. Depending on geography, this will typically be a 20 to 60 mile radius.It is our goal in selling territories to select and area that is large enough for you to realize your full growth potential, but not so large that potential cusotmers are not served.

Q: Who supplies the propane for my business?

A: In most areas we have established relationships with producers or wholesale distributors. If there is not an established relationship in your area, we will develop a reliable supplier relationship to cover your territory.

Q. Do I need any experience in the propane business or a related field ?

A. No, our comprehensive training and support programs will provide you with the knowledge you need. Our experience requirements are that you are a capable business manager.

 
Q. How long will it take to get my business open after I am awarded a 1st Propane® franchise?
A. Typically, it takes two to three months after the approval of your franchise agreements. It can take longer if approvals are needed for propane storage or real estate permits.

Q. What happens during this three month time period?

A. Several major items are orchestrated in parallel. You obtain a tank storage location, attend your training program, and obtain your trucks and tanks. At the same time, pre-marketing is conducted in your area by creating exposure to the public using various forms of advertising media. We manage this process with checklists and active support, in order to get you started as soon as possible.

Q. Are there any major competitors?

A. Yes, but the extent of the competition varies from area to area. There are no companies that dominate the industry on a national basis. Typically, the management and marketing systems you will have at your disposal will allow you to compete effectively and quickly create your niche in your market. It is our policy not to sell a franchise until a thorough market analysis has been completed.

Q. Can I sell my 1st Propane® franchise?

A. Yes. You can sell it to any buyer who meets the then-current 1st Propane® qualifications for franchise ownership.


Q. How much can I expect to earn?

A. Your potential profit will depend on a number of factors such as the amount of effort you put in, and how well you run your business. Naturally, as in any business venture, there is no guarantee for profitability, but we help to minimize your risk by giving you the benefit of our experience. The law does not permit us to give actual income projections, but in your review of the Uniform Franchise Offering Circular you will be able to build your plan using historical results from actual franchises.
